Lattice Semiconductor must be strong believers in the phrase "less is more", as by providing this minimalist iCE40HX8K Breakout Board they expect one to work one's butt off to get the most out of it. However, they could only be described as true democrats, because not only is the board minimalist so is its sparse user guide, as well the challenging documentation on using the development  software, iCEcube 2.

This means that if you love the excellent iCE40 family of FPGAs, like we do, you need to be prepared to bring your "A" game to the digital design fiesta, like we had to, when figuring out how to use this particular FPGA development board.

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler - Albert Einstein.

I've recently started work porting the design of the DE0 Nano serial communications protocol to Lattice Semiconductor's iCE40 HX8K Breakout Board (A First Impression review of the breakout board is coming soon). Now since I wasn't sure how much change would be involved, in porting the design, I thought now would be a good time to start using Git (git-scm.com) for versioning control religiously. Hence, I installed a Git server on a Synology DiskStation  DS215j Network Attached Storage (NAS) (First impression review also coming soon) and got on with it. Here's how the exercise unfolded.

After the first part of the show, followed by refreshments, we were back for the second half and it would be in this half of the show that drama, which even Shakespeare could not have scripted, would begin to unfold.

It would be in this half of the show that we would witness a dance that Scott would hope would be his enlightenment  on the road to Damascus. Instead, he would completely  lose his way and end up with a dance that would not be fit to be performed on the deserted, desolated, rubble-strewn and war torn streets of downtown Aleppo.

It would be in this half of the show that we would receive the results from a voting system that would have left even the most self-respecting, pot-bellied, oversize sunglasses wearing, third world dictator loosening his collar, while looking nervously over his shoulder. This was SCD, this was show business and it would turn out to be show business at its best.

Previously, we gave our first impression of the crowd funded iSketchNote, which although showed great promise appeared not to be quite ready for market release. Well, since then the guys at ISKN appear to be working very hard  and have produced updates for both the iPad app and the iSketchNote's firmware. So we decided to offer our second, humble, opinion. Here is what we think.

I'm a huge dance fan, both ballroom and modern dance, even though my dancing efforts lack, should we say, technicality, LOL! Hence, I jumped at the opportunity of watching the Strictly Come Dancing (SCD) Live Tour at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday, 7th February. Well, we all did really and jumped into the car to make the one hour and fourty-five minutes pilgrimage up to the Greenwich Peninsula, where the O2 is located. Here is the first part of my narrative of the matinee event.
